Derrick Dawson |
Derrick G Dawson was the son of a shoemaker in Swineshead. His father was called George, he was a little man who had his cobblers shop in a wooden building in his garden, he was stone deaf, wore small round spectacles and always had a mouthful of tacks to nail on the shoes or boots he was working on, I think he could lip read as he always carried out the repairs asked for. There were three cobblers in the village but my dad always said George Dawson was the best and the quickest, probably on account having no interruptions due to his deafness. courtesy of Brian Sharpe [we are hoping to build on this information] |
