Originally from Ilkley Yorkshire, now living Windermere, Cumbria. Joined up at Ingham and trained from May to September 1952. Signed onboard RMS ORONTES, as deckboy, allocated to "E" Deck. Aft.

Served on board until April 1953; then 18 years old and eligible for National Service I joined the Army. Serving in the Far East until 1956.
