Built in 1944 by
Harland & Wolf at Govan for Royal Mail Lines at 5,595 grt. She
carried the welding scars where she carried a deck gun during the
Second World War. She was a single screw motorship designed as a
general freighter for the Brazil and River Plate service with
occasion trips to the Maricaibo Lakes in Venezuela. On my trip to
Brazil we carried general machinery in the holds and railway
carriages as deck cargo outward bound and a full cargo of bulk sugar
back to KGV.
During the 1950s and 60s the P class ships had their shelter deck
status changed and their gross tonnage was increased to about 7500.
The Parima was sold in October 1962 to the Mary Shipping Co. of
Panama and renamed the Michalios X. In 1966 she was sold to the
Ionia Shipping Co. SA. of Panama and renamed the Fortune Dragon. She
was out of register in 1968 so presumed scrapped at that time.
