This Furness Withy
ship collided with the anchored "Port Lincoln" 23/01/52 in fog at
night at Holehaven in the Thames Estuary whilst I was a privileged
on watch observer and we were loading bombs and detonators. There
followed a serious /hilarious sequel as the Lincolns trailing curved
end of the Foc'stle stuck into the Pacific's side plating to open it
up like a sardine tin! Crews exchanged remonstrance's together with
the inevitable enquiry as to whether there were any Geordies
aboard!!! Lifeboats etc disappeared over the side before we got
repaired again. Its a bit of a story (Vic Wroth) |
