Please don't add me to the list of the Oronsay. I was a mere boy of 7 and was a passenger aboard her in 1959. Sailed from San Francisco to Sydney. Loved the ship and experience but was not a crew member.

I did however contract pneumonia, measles and double ear infection along with a lot of other children in the Tasman Sea (rough) and this required the ship to be quarantined in Sydney harbour for awhile. After about a week or so they let us enter Australia where after about a month I recovered enough to know where I was.

I'm just an American kid who was lucky enough to cross the Pacific on her and it gave me a life-long yearning for the sea and ships.

My name is Jim Porter and I sailed on the Oronsay from Tilbury for Australia on 19th Jan 1962 returning 10th April and then sailed again 25th April 1962 for Australia - The Pacific-North America - Hong Kong and Japan returning 15th August 1962. I then rejoined her again on the 8th April 1964 for a repeat of the previous mentioned itinerary returning on the 23rd August 1964.
