Sam Honey - I did one
voyage on the Hinakura. At the age of 20 I was the stockman that
looked after 23 Charolais cattle on the journey from London to
Wellington in 1971. I was actually employed by a company called
British Livestock Company and was registered on the ship as a
Supernumerary Officer. The cattle were housed in wooden crates that
were secured on the deck. On calm days I was allowed to let some of
the smaller, calmer cows wander on the deck. The voyage took 8
weeks. |
