We immigrated to South Africa in 1956 and travelled there on this
ship. I was only six at the time but remember the crossing the line
party very well. My mother had me dressed up as a Chinese coolie
complete with buckets. I am trying to trace the passenger list.
There is a Maritime Memorabilia shop here in Cape Town that has
several items from her. Keith

My grandfather was a seaman gunner in
the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (South Africa) on this ship from
1941-1943. It was armed with 8 x 6 inch guns and served as a convoy
escort for supplies to the Atlantic coasts, north Africa and the
Mediterranean theatres. I am looking for any photos of this ship,
particularly in its wartime livery (showing the guns etc).

I was a deck boy on its last
voyage in 1962 when we nearly sank in horrendous weather coming back
through the Bay Of Biscay. There were 9 deck boys, and I enjoyed the
trip overall. Shaun Allon
