British Argosy
David Procter - The following is my record of the time I served on the Br Argosy as 4/E. 100 000dwt, Pametrada turbines. Engine room layout poor, Control room an afterthought. Weirs TWL feed pumps problems. A culture shock after the VLCCs’, but still a good British built ship, perhaps one of the last (motor ships excepted). The Admiral and the Argosy shared one spare propeller, which was not carried on either ship!. We hit something on 10-05-73 en-route to Persian Gulf and finished up discharging at Durban SBM. We had lost 6ft tip of one blade. Six bladed propeller, so the solution was easy: cut off equal amount from opposite blade. Trip to Kharg Island and Finnart was same speed as before damage occurred!
