Began my career as a Deck Boy on the MV Wharanui of the New Zealand Shipping Co. Had a month in dry dock before setting
out on the MANS run to Australia USA and New Zealand (from Oct 1964 to Feb
1966).
Left as a boy came home a man as they say. I then did a few Star boats to South
America before joining the RFA for three years, namely RFA Lyness, Tideflow and
Resource. From 1973 to 1977 I sailed on various ships ie chem tanker on coastal duty
to King Lines and finally on the Port Line until I met my wife in New Zealand
who persuaded me to remain here and start a family. I left the ship in Timaru
and travelled up to Napier and have been here ever since.
My wife Catherine and I have two children, a girl Bianca Joyce now 31 and a boy
Richard Neil now 27. I work in a carpet yarn manufacturing business and have
done for the last 24 years.
