After leaving PWSTS I shipped out on the MV Essex as deck boy arrived in NZ a few months later where I stayed ashore for 6 months. I thought the PWSTS was a great experience, it's a shame it closed down I have have many fond memories of the place. I resumed my seagoing career, staying at sea for 13 years shipped out with Blue Star then spent 7 years with Scottish Ship Management which was a great company tramped all over the world and even went to KiwiLand several times. Missed out on joining the Derbyshire-lucky me I did one trip with Bibby's before SSM ,it was crewed with all us guys who had committees. I loved being at sea and had a great time I loved those foreign lands, still have the travel bugand like to visit Asian countries-Thailand and Bali my favourite.

Left the sea at 30 years of age when SSM flagged itself out and I found it hard to ship out, probably because I got into too many scrapes at sea (oops missed the ship again) so I headed back to New Zealand and got a job on the docks in Wellington as a rigger for 4 years then transferred to the cargo section where I have driven the container cranes straddles forklifts and a bit of relieving on the tugs and pilot launch's. I'm still there working for Centreport driving and relieving as foreman. I'm now remarried to a lovely Filipino widow ,we have one daughter 17 months old and a boy 12 years old from her previous marriage.
