Lionel TurnerMy name is Lionel Turner, born Dublin 06/09/38. I attended the Prince of Wales at Dover from 15th February to 20th May 1955. On 24th May I joined the Port Vindex at KG5 along with two other trainees, Jock Tough and 'Tubby' Burnett.

The Port Vindex was a well found and happy ship and I have many good memories of the ship and her crew (Master E.Roswell) and stayed with her until leaving for my EDH in January 1957.

I then sailed on a variety of vessels owned by Royal Mail, Union Castle, Shaw Saville and Blue Star and then went coasting with Everards where I obtained a Second Mates Certificate and eventually Home Trade Masters.

I joined the Trinity House Pilotage Service at Dover in 1966 and continued in the London District Pilotage Service until I retired in 2003.

Married with 5 children, 10 grandchildren and a dog and presently living in Margate, Kent.
